The return to Arrakis promised to be heroic, beautiful and intense. Denis Villeneuve does not disappoint even though the film sometimes loses steam at certain points.
Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the universe, he must prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival”, “Prisoners”, “Incendies”) is one of the greatest directors of our time. He developed a very visual way to direct his movies without losing his eye on the story and his character’s. This is again the case in the film. With the beautiful scenes in the desert, the black and white scene’s on Giedi Prime and the great wide shots of the battles and the sandworms. The music of Hans Zimmer is again a treasure for the ears and the story builds up to the final battle which is a visual explosion of senses. The problem with the film is that the ritme is not always as strong. Sometimes the film goes to slowly and sometimes too fast. The extend version of this film may resolve a lot of issues on the matter.
Timothée Chalamet gives his most charismatic performances to date. Growing from the previous film and really developing into the character. Javier Bardem is also great as the leader of the Fremen who completely evolves into a religious follower. Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård and Austin Butler complete is amazing cast.
