Oh no, yet another comic book series! But this time, coming from Amazon Prime ! Yes, another comic book series, but it’s way more than that!
It’s meant to be a satire on comic book movies and it totally works! It’s that strange mix of a genuinely good storyline with lots of humor. The series doesn’t take itself too seriously, while it does at the same time. The way the characters are written also contributes greatly to how much your average Joe will like this series. The main character is just a normal person, who gets dragged into his destiny. Ironically the Tick serves as the secondary character though in the series he sees the main character as his sidekick. Who or what is the Tick? Aside the absolutely ridiculous name & concept, he’s blue muscular, superstrong & tall superhero, but there’s a catch, he’s not very smart… This ends up in some hilarious situations. It’s a weird show that somehow works and makes you laugh. At times you’re just left confused with what’s happening; sometimes it’s serious, then you have over the top humor right after.
While the series may not come out as serious, actors still give solid performances, special effects are better than in most series. It’s only a 6 episode run of less than a half hour, meaning it’s not a huge time investment. Yet it sets up the series very nicely. You can tell they had an above average budget, which was well used and well worth it.
Secondary characters are also quite interesting & funny, there’s plenty of interesting & funny moments throughout the series, I certainly look forward to a second season, hopefully it will be longer than this first season, which was still a solid origin story.
