Review Neruda

Neruda, the famous Chilean poet receives a powerful biopic cantered on a very particular moment in his life.

An inspector hunts down Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, who becomes a fugitive in his home country in the late 1940s for joining the Communist Party.

Pablo Larraín (“El Club”, “No”) decided to directed unlinear film about the life of Pablo Nerdua. The film is a poetic journey about the chase of the famous poet, trying to flee the country after president Videla tried to arrest him.  Beautifully shot, immerged in Neruda poems, the film is a thrilling adventure, a road trip around the beautiful Chilean countryside.  “Neruda” delights by its intelligent use of the poems of the Neruda.

Gael García Bernal and Luis Gnecco make a fantastic duo who only have one scene together but communicate with each other throughout the film. A beautiful thing to watch. Mercedes Morán, as the mistress of Neruda, shines also in her performance.

The film was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language at the Golden Globes.
