The feel good film of the year. The musical, that works as a prequel for the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, is explosion of whimsickel colors and dance scenes.
Focusing on a young Willy Wonka and how he came to meet the Oompa-Loompas on one of his earliest adventures.
Paul King (Paddington, Paddington 2) is the perfect director to make such a story come to life. Kind-hearted and full of positive spirit this film shines with all the little magical tricks the director throws at us. Serving as a prequel to the film version of Gene Wilder this film imagine a less cynical version of Willy Wonka. He has still a lot of dreams to share his chocolate to the world. Naive and optimistic he believes the world will love him for his wonderfull inventions. Chocoholic be prepared and envious to all the delicious looking chocolate in the film!
Timothée Chalamet is charismatic and very believeble as the always optimistic Wonka. He convinces us to follow him on his adventure and have a great time with him. Calah Lane, is the true heart of the film and brings a lot of light and hope to the story. We sadly have too little of the great Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa and Rowan Atkinson as a priest. Olivia Colman is the perfect bad person together with a full roast of perfectly cast English actors.
