A new movie by Denis Villeneuve is always an event, the Canadian director has built up an impressive filmography seemingly directing different genres and themes to wonderful results.
When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team – led by expert linguist Louise Banks – is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.
Denis Villeneuve (“Sicario”, “Prisoners”) has embarked on an impressive adventure. This sci-fi thriller isn’t what it looks like and the movie will surprise many of the viewers. Villeneuve and the screenwriter Eric Heisserer took the story written by Ted Chiang and created a visual and intellectual study of human kind. The film built up from a genuine premise to a strong finale where the aliens are not the main story but how humans communicate with one and other. The film is built around the character of Amy Adams, the smartest linguistic professor in the world. Adams is very impressive in the film, she isn’t arrogant or forward, seemingly tender, afraid and fascinated she tries to understand the reasons of why there is an alien ship in Montana. An impressive turn by Adams who carries the movie on her shoulders and has an impressive supporting cast with Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker and Michael Stuhlbarg.
Absolutely stunning film! I utterly adored it start to finish! It was elegant and clever, very well balanced and expertedly crafted. An instant classic.
