The Venice Film Festival has always been able to lure the best and brightest to their Festival. The beauty of the city and the Italian location is an attraction which is difficilt to resist.
The Opening film is the new movie from acclaimed director Damien Chazelle (“Whiplash”) : “La La Land” a musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Other pottentialy great films to look forword to are: “The Light Between Oceans” Derek Cianfrance (“The Place Beyond the Pines“) starring Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. “The Bad Batch”, directed by Ana Lily Amirpour (“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night“), the new movie from Emir Kusturica (“Underground”) “On The Milky Road”, “Arrival,” by Denis Villeneuve (“Sicario”), Nocturnal Animals, directed by Tom Ford, the designer, who’s debut film “A Single Man” surprised many and “Jackie”, directed by Pablo Larrain (“No“).
The Out of competition category convinced some great names to attend: Paolo Sorrentino with his new Tv show “The Young Pope”, the Western remake “The Magnificent Seven”, by: Antoine Fuqua and the new movie by Jee-woon Kim “The Age Of Shadows”.
The very controversial Mel Gibson has also been invited to the festival with his new movie “Hacksaw Ridge”.
The festival runs from Aug. 31 to Sept. 10 and will be dedicated to recently deceased greats Abbas Kiarostami and Michael Cimino. The 73rd edition of Venice Film Festival will pay tribute to Illumination Entertainment (“Despicable Me”, “The Lorax“) CEO Chris Meledandri
